Talent@ALTEN – An ALTEN Story, by Thibaut F
Tell us about your experience at Alten
I must say it has been an exciting adventure with many opportunities along the way! I was called after graduating in Canada three years ago by ALTEN UK to join the consultant team being created for a new aerospace customer. After two years, I became part of the new management structure as a cluster leader supporting the ever-growing team. My role evolved into a project leader position this year, where I lead and ensure the development of my team.
What does your current role involve?
As a project leader, I am here to provide a framework for the team to deliver on quality and on time. This goes from enabling consultants not only with the right tools and the right coaching but the proper training and opportunities. My mission is also to facilitate and formalise the communications between the team, the customers and Alten management teams. I have my own technical activities as well, which I do to challenge myself!
What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical day would start with a follow-up call with my team to identify any successes or arising problems. Keeping the team looking ahead is key! I will then work to provide the correct mitigation to avoid blockers from involving the right people or ensuring a stable information flow. I also spend time planning new activities. This includes understanding the project requirements, estimating the efforts needed and assessing any potential risks. At the end of the day, my job is to make sure that we meet our customers’ expectations.
What advice would you give to young engineers looking to develop their career?
As a young engineer, you need to differentiate yourself and not just through technical skills. Your communication, your teamwork skills and enthusiasm are essential to strive in multi-stakeholder environments. At Alten, combining soft and technical skills enables us to deliver top engineering services!
