Due to ongoing expansion, Alten Ltd is looking for several System Design Engineers to join our team in Derby within the Aerospace sector. This is a fantastic chance to join a fast growing company with strong core values of; Accountability, Integrity and Service.
Your new role:
As a System Design Engineer you be one of our quality consultants performing on one of our major engineering projects in the UK. You will also be contributing to our development and growth within the Aerospace industry.
As a System Design Engineer your main responsibilities will be:
- Experience in Software development life cycle: Requirements, Design, Development, integration and qualification tested to the requirements of DO-178B/C.
- A working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines on real time embedded systems; preferably Gas Turbine Controls System.
- Experience in C/Ada Programming
- Exposure to Model Based development.
- Good working knowledge of Avionics Communication Protocol like Arinc429, AFDX, CAN protocol
- Expertise with Software Configuration Management and Change Control process.
- Good hands-on experience in Software Configuration Management tools
- Should have strong troubleshoot skills to debug problems
- Experience with developing applications in compliance with safety critical standards such as DO178/C would be ideal.
- Understanding the issues and constraints of real time, safety critical, embedded products.

Key experience / qualifications
- Working knowledge of engine and airframe interfaces, engine component technology and behaviour during normal and abnormal operation, verification vehicles, controls sub-system design, system architecture, software and/or hardware architecture, and software and hardware development process constraints.
- A working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines.
- An ability to interpret test results and provide an informed opinion or conclusion as to the outcome of the analysis. This includes an understanding of measurement uncertainty.
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to completion ensuring that the relevant areas of the engineering team are appropriately consulted/informed.
- Good presentation and communication skills is essential
- Appreciation of aerospace industry standards and working practices (ARP4754A, ARP4761 etc.)
Tools/Methodologies used:
- Requirements management: DOORs, PTC Integrity
- System Modelling: Matlab/Simulink, SysML
- Safety analysis: Reliability Workbench
Qualifications required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or higher
