From Military to Civilian Leadership: Simon’s Journey at Alten
A portrait of Simon
At Alten, we’re proud to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our team members. Today, we shine a spotlight on Simon, whose remarkable journey from the Royal Air Force to his current role as a Project Leader exemplifies the valuable contributions that veterans bring to our company.
A Journey of service and leadership
Simon’s career began in 2002 when he enlisted in the Royal Air Force as a Weapons Technician. Over the course of 10 years of service, Simon honed his skills in communication, punctuality, and problem-solving while serving in various roles and locations around the world. His time in the RAF laid the foundation for his transition into civilian life, instilling in him a can-do attitude and a commitment to excellence that continue to define his professional journey.
After leaving the RAF in 2012, Simon embarked on a new chapter in the railway industry, where he rose through the ranks from engineer to Fleet Operations Support Manager. However, the opportunity to join Alten presented itself, and Simon seized the chance to leverage his skills and expertise in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Thriving in a new role
Since joining Alten as a Project Leader, Simon has made significant contributions to our team. With his strong leadership abilities and experience in managing complex projects, Simon has successfully led a team of 28 individuals across four major Thales projects. His dedication to ensuring timely delivery and maintaining team cohesion in a remote working environment has been instrumental to our success.
Simon’s military background has uniquely equipped him to excel in his current role, particularly in remaining calm under pressure and effectively communicating with remote teams.
His commitment to continuous learning and growth has enabled him to address knowledge gaps and adapt to the fast-paced nature of our industry.
A supportive environment for veterans
At Alten, we recognise the value of hiring veterans like Simon and are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive in civilian roles. Simon’s journey is a testament to the opportunities available to veterans in our company, and we’re proud to have him as part of our team.
