Job Description

What will you be doing? 

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will join a team in Derby/Warrington to support our activities within the Nuclear Sector.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Contribute to design definitions for various pressured equipment to ensure structural integrity and safety.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations for various parameters including wall thickness, reinforcement requirements, and support structures.
  • Address NDE / NDT requirements to ensure equipment structural integrity.
  • Conduct structural analysis and integrity evaluations of pressure vessels, piping systems, and other critical components.
  • Utilize fracture mechanics, fatigue analysis, and stress analysis to assess component life and safety margins.
  • Analyse degradation mechanisms such as corrosion, erosion, creep, and stress corrosion cracking.
  • Assess material properties and microstructures to determine suitability for service conditions.
  • Provide expertise in material selection and recommend solutions for material degradation issues.
  • Define safety case requirements and NDT strategy to ensure structural integrity.
  • Oversee structural integrity related projects from concept to detail design, coordinating with vendors, suppliers, and other engineering teams.

Who are we looking for? 

  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations. (i.e. ASME II, ASME V, ASME VIII and other relevant BS / EN / ISO standards).
  • Experience with development of NDT or material structural integrity requirements.
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and ensure designs meet project specifications and standards.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a field related to pressured equipment NDT or materials.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles applied to Pressured equipment.
  • Familiarity with Metal Materials and NDT for the heavy equipment industries.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, EN, ISO).
