Job Description

What will you be doing? 

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will join a team in Derby/Warrington to support our activities within the Nuclear Sector.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Create and optimize designs for various types of tanks (e.g., storage tanks, accumulator tanks, surge tanks) used in nuclear power plant systems.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations, including wall thickness, reinforcement requirements, and support structures.
  • Address factors affecting tank stability, such as hydrostatic pressure, wind, and seismic loads.
  • Contribute to design definitions with calculations, analysis and feasibility studies for either thermal performance or mechanical design.
  • Diagnose and solve operational issues related to storage of liquids or gasses, such as fouling, pressure drop, or reduced efficiency.
  • Oversee tank design projects from concept to detail design, coordinating with vendors, suppliers, and other engineering teams.

Who are we looking for? 

  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations. (i.e. ASME VIII, API 620 etc).
  • Experience with industrial tanks or pressured vessels and experience designing mechanical pressured equipment (Bentley AutoPIPE software experience preferred).
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and ensure designs meet project specifications and standards.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a field related to pressured equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles for tanks and pressure vessels.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software tools: 3D Modelling: Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, AutoCAD.
  • Mechanical Analysis: Bentley AutoPIPE Vessel, Intergraph PV Elite, ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (ASME BPVC, API, EN, ISO).
