Job Description

What will you be doing? 

As a Mechanical Integrity (Stress) Engineer, you will join in our team in Rugby to support our activities within the Energy  sector. 

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Perform detailed strength analysis of components in line with contract specifications, utilizing Finite Element (FE) techniques and traditional hand calculations to ensure compliance and reliability.

  • Analyse components for plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, fatigue, rupture, and other critical failure modes to validate design integrity under various operating conditions.

  •  Assess components for natural frequency, vibration response, and heat transfer to ensure safe and effective performance under both operational and environmental conditions.

  • Evaluate components to withstand loads from shock, impact, and dynamic operational stresses to ensure durability in real-world applications.

  • Assist in defining suitable weld types, and perform strength and fatigue checks on welded joints to ensure robust and safe connections.

  • Identify design deficiencies through advanced analysis techniques, recommending improvements to enhance performance, safety, and reliability.

  • As required, perform analysis on in-house and non-customer equipment, such as pressure test fixtures, to support internal needs and testing.

  • Build and refine FE models, developing analysis plans to meet project requirements and ensure accurate simulation results.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentation materials, documenting analysis results and methodologies for internal and customer review.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required: 

  • Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related fields.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical component analysis, with a strong focus on performance and reliability.
  • Expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, ideally including Abaqus and ANSYS, to simulate and validate complex systems.
  • In-depth understanding of ASME and DNV codes for safety, quality, and compliance in design and manufacturing.
  • Technical expertise in rotating equipment, with a preference for experience in turbine systems, ensuring familiarity with high-stress and dynamic environment
  • This role involves work with UK Defence customers, so applicants must be British Citizens and either hold or be eligible for SC Level clearance. Candidates must have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
