Job Description

Are you ready to work on ground-breaking defence optronics technology? ALTEN is seeking a talented Senior Firmware Engineer to join our Belfast team, playing a critical role in the design and delivery of high-impact electronic systems. This is your chance to shape resilient, advanced systems that support security on a global scale, using state-of-the-art FPGA and SoC technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of firmware architectures for mission-critical projects, ensuring each solution is reliable and re-usable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, and systems engineers) to integrate and deliver complex solutions.
  • Manage requirements, design, verification, and validation processes, ensuring all firmware meets high standards for defence applications.
  • Use top industry tools to develop, test, and verify firmware in line with project goals and timelines.
  • Document and streamline firmware processes, enhancing efficiency and promoting best practices across the team.
  • Support end-to-end project delivery, from initial concept through to production, ensuring adherence to strict industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field, plus 5+ years in firmware.
  • Experience with FPGA architectures (e.g., AMD/Xilinx, Lattice) and development tools such as Vivado, Diamond, Radiant, Vitis, and Propel.
  • Proficient in hardware description languages such as VHDL or System Verilog.
  • Strong background in verification methodologies 
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., TCL) for process automation.
  • Experience with communication protocols and technologies 
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments and compliance with process assurance standards (e.g., DO254, IEC 61508, ISO 26262).
  • SC clearance (or eligibility) required.
