Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with a knack for tackling complex defence projects. Join ALTEN as we support clients working on advanced ship and fleet protection and undersea surveillance systems—deployed globally to provide rapid response to threats. This is a unique opportunity to be part of critical maritime defence projects where your systems expertise will drive real impact in undersea technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Systems Engineering activities throughout the V Cycle, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and project timelines.
  • Own the requirements management process, capturing, refining, and validating requirements using IBM DOORS.
  • Develop and implement systems architecture and design solutions for complex underwater decoy launcher systems.
  • Drive collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth system integration and compatibility across all subsystems.
  • Proactively chase project delivery actions, managing deadlines, and mitigating risks to keep projects on track.
  • Provide technical expertise in defence and maritime domains, advising on best practices for system security, effectiveness, and interoperability.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, ideally within the defence or maritime industry.
  • Proven experience with full V Cycle development and requirements management tools, especially IBM DOORS.
  • Knowledge of defence standards and requirements for system reliability and security.
  • Ability to take ownership, lead activities, and drive project milestones proactively.
  • SC Clearance or eligibility for SC clearance is essential due to project requirements.
  • Able to be onsite 2 days a week in Barnstaple (Expenses paid)
